On Pixel phones, Google previously prevented the Pixel Buds app from appearing in the launcher, but has now reversed that.
Updated 10/11:Google Pixel Buds 1.0.680489030 Add themed icons to the Play Store. Most first-party apps have this, but it’s still lacking in some ways.
Original 9/20: Pixel Buds companion client version 1.0.673625792 adds support for Pixel Buds Pro 2 ahead of launch next week. With this update, the Pixel Buds app (I think it has a nice icon) will now appear in the Pixel Launcher if your headphones are paired/saved.
So instead of having a “widget”/shortcut that shows a live photo of your headphones (in the correct color) with a badge in the bottom right corner, you can put it on your Pixel’s home screen to quickly access your Pixel Buds’ settings. .
On some people’s home screens, that shortcut looks a little out of place. My recommended solution is to use the battery widget, which opens these settings directly, or use the Bluetooth quick settings tile.
The Pixel Buds app icon was never hidden on other Android devices, only on Google. Pixel Buds 1.0.673625792 is widely available through the Play Store.
