If you’re a fan of Samsung’s phones but haven’t bought the Galaxy S24 flagship yet, you might be in luck. Samsung has released this year’s Fan Edition Galaxy phone, the Galaxy S24 FE.

Traditionally, Fan Edition Samsung devices aimed to offer a near-flagship user experience at a more affordable price. Samsung typically achieves this by making strategic cost-cutting decisions during the manufacturing process.

however, Galaxy S24FE This year is a little different. It doesn’t quite match the specs of its more expensive counterparts, but it’s closer to top-end phones than its predecessor.

While testing the S24 FE, I was pleasantly surprised by how close it performed to the S24 Plus, especially in terms of performance and camera features. In some cases, Fan Edition even outperformed Plus. The Galaxy S24 Plus is the most logical comparison given the similar size.

We will explain why you may need to consider this. Galaxy S24FE Samsung’s mid-ranger, priced at $649; galaxy s24 plus Flagship models start at $999. that’s a big difference $350And as you can see, that’s not necessarily the price you have to pay.

Check out:

1. Camera

Samsung clearly stated in this Galaxy S24FE Announcement that it is equipped with the same 50MP main camera as the one installed in galaxy s24 And S24 Plus. The company even emphasized that the post-processing is identical.

In fact, our tests also confirmed that. Camera scores and lab tests that measure the performance of each phone’s camera in a controlled environment reveal: Galaxy S24FE It achieved roughly the same overall score as the more expensive S24 Plus.

The 12MP ultra-wide camera is also the same on both phones. The only difference is in the telephoto and selfie cameras, which are 8MP and 10MP on the FE versus 10MP and 12MP on the Plus. Even with these variations, differences in image quality were minimal.

The main area where the S24 Plus slightly outperformed the FE was in selfie camera performance. There are some other minor differences between the ultra-wide camera and the main camera, but they appear to be within the margin of error in our testing.

2. Processor and performance

Another welcome surprise in this year’s Fan Edition phones was the nearly identical chipset to the flagship lineup. of galaxy s24 plus Uses Exynos 2400 chipset (outside US and Canada), S24 FE is powered by Exynos 2400e.

Performance benchmark:

Surprisingly, this Exynos 2400e wasn’t far behind either. In terms of CPU processing power, the S24 FE was roughly on par with the Plus in single-core benchmarks.

In layman’s terms, most users won’t notice a huge difference in performance when comparing Samsung’s top midrange products to this year’s larger flagships.

3. Software updates and features

As expected, Galaxy S24FE offers a 7-year commitment to major Android updates and security patches. galaxy s24 plusThis means that future software updates with new features and user interface improvements will also benefit your S24 FE, ensuring a long-lasting and up-to-date experience.

The S24 FE is promised 7 years of software support, so even if you don’t plan on using it for the rest of its life, you’re well-equipped for the future.

4.Display

The resolution and maximum brightness of S24 FE are slightly lower, but the difference is not that big compared to S24 FE. galaxy s24 plus. In our experience, the Fan Edition’s display is very similar to the Plus.

Display measurements:

Both phones share a 6.7-inch display, making them ideal for consuming visual content. It also features near-identical Gorilla Glass protection and up to 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth scrolling on both devices.

We also found that the color accuracy of the S24 FE and S24 Plus units was very similar.

5. Audio quality

Samsung’s big phones offer excellent audio quality, and the S24 FE sounds just as impressive as the S24 Plus. This is probably due to the larger form factor, which allows for richer sound production.

Combine excellent audio quality with impressive display and performance, and you’ve got a phone that’s extremely fun to game on.

conclusion

The reasons listed above may not seem immediately impressive. The S24 FE wasn’t introduced to revolutionize the mobile phone market, as flagships attempt to do. But what makes it special is that it comes for $350 less. This is a considerable amount…

The main area where the S24 Plus offers a slight advantage is battery life. In our testing, the S24 FE’s battery life is estimated to be around 6 hours and 20 minutes, while the Plus’ battery life is estimated at 6 hours and 54 minutes. However, this difference is relatively small considering the price difference.

I’m a little confused by this year’s Galaxy Fan Edition. Did Samsung intend it to be this good? Does the company intend for this to be the new FE standard in the future? We don’t know the answers to these questions, but one thing we do know is that we, the consumers, are the winners.
