Xbox to allow direct purchase of games on Android app next month

Microsoft is preparing an update to its Xbox mobile app for Android next month that will allow users in the United States to buy and play Xbox games directly on their devices. The news follows a US court order forcing Google to end enforcement of Google Play billing for apps in the Play Store on November 1st.

“The court’s decision to open Google’s mobile store in the U.S. allows for more choice and flexibility. Our mission is to We’re excited to share that starting in November, players will be able to play and purchase Xbox games directly from the Xbox app on Android.

A new purchasing feature integrated into the Xbox mobile app will allow Microsoft to sell Xbox games directly on Android devices. The app also incorporates Xbox Cloud Gaming, allowing users to stream games to their phones right after purchase.

It remains unclear why Microsoft didn’t allow game purchases within Android apps until now, when other platforms like Steam and PlayStation Store already allow mobile purchases. Microsoft has been contacted for clarification on the issue, but the company said the only thing it can share at this time is the Bond announcement.

In addition to this development, Microsoft is also working on a browser-based Xbox mobile store, which was originally scheduled to launch in July.
