I think the first thing to mention about the bumper case is that it’s just that…a bumper case. This kind of design and form factor isn’t for everyone, myself included, but the new iPhone 16 Arc Pulse bumper might change your mind.
Many felt that last year’s product was definitely the best in its category. Despite the fact that I’ve traditionally been much more likely to wrap my iPhone in leather, in my opinion, leather products are likely to be the top choice again this year. Please test them.
The Arc case is actually a two-piece skeleton that fits the top and bottom of your new iPhone. The small package opens to reveal a top bumper that wraps around the top two corners of the device and surrounds the camera array. The bottom part is an even simpler option to secure the bottom of your Apple handset.
As for installation, it takes 2 seconds and no glue is required. Simply slide the top of the device down and snap it into place. The same goes for the bottom. The shiny aerospace metal treatment here is lined with a softer, custom-designed elastomeric rubber-like material to keep your iPhone 16 from getting damaged in the process.
One of the concerns that many people and readers, including myself, had was how the Arc bumper would look from the front.
There is a small curved lip around each corner of the device and slightly above the front. This ensures that your iPhone won’t actually hit the table no matter which way you drop it. The same goes for the rear camera array.
Do I wish this lipstick was sheer? Yes, I think so, but actually just from the front, it’s really aesthetic for me. The screen looks a little too thick from the front for my tastes, but in terms of the amount of protection a case like this can offer, it does its job well. At least in my case, about 1mm is probably too thick. It’s not quite the look I want and I wish the entire bumper (both top and bottom) was a little more slender overall, but it’s very close to perfect.
As I’m sure anyone who reads my case and accessory reviews already knows, I don’t have to spend just a little bit of time complaining or praising a product’s use of visual branding. So I’ll say it again here. For Arc, it’s fine. Neither bumper displays anything other than a very subtle logo, nicely etched into the top left side of the metal (when viewed from the back of the phone). It’s perfect, and the overall visual experience might be better without it.
Standard Arc bumper cases (there are also ultra-high-end models that are very expensive and hard to find) are made from aluminum 7075-T6 with a high-end anti-scratch coating. This is an “aerospace grade outer metal shell”. ”In fact, it’s just as shiny as it looks in the photos on the site and in this review. This isn’t just marketing photography…it’s very sophisticated.
These are rated to protect your device from drops from a height of 10 feet. I don’t want to run this test on my brand new iPhone 16 Pro, but it seems to be quite durable on its own. You can remove one of the bumpers and drop it on concrete without getting scratched. I aggressively slid it over the edge of a wooden desk and it didn’t make any scratches. If you rub it with a closed pen, it will still not cause any scratches. The only way I could actually make a mark was with a small electronic screwdriver. Still, I had to actually plug in a screwdriver to see anything that was overly noticeable. There’s some good stuff here.
Color choices include black, silver, gold, and the rose bronze shown here. If there’s any complaint on this front, it’s that the brand seems to be clearly catering to iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max users. In contrast, the other two models are only available in black and silver. You can choose from a variety of colors to match Apple’s new paint job. That said, the Pro colors look great against Apple’s treatment and black and silver. Neither is bad On iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
At the end of the day, it’s a question of whether or not to add a bumper case. And if you’re going to make a bumper case, you should give Arc some serious consideration. When it comes to these types of cases, I think the biggest appeal for people is to really show off the Apple design of the iPhone 16 and the colors they’ve chosen, and these Arc cases clearly do that. and are still able to provide it. Some notable drop and impact protection in the process. If you like the look of these cases in images online, including the photo above, you’ll almost certainly like them in real life.
