A few weeks ago, at an event in New York City (actually a few days after Google’s fall Chromebook showcase), Samsung also held a small event to show off some new devices. And while the shiny new Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus is getting most of our attention, I’m also intrigued by the new Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra that were announced.
The main reason for that is that the Galaxy Tab S line has been the gold standard for premium Android tablets for years. But this time, Samsung is trying to change things up. First off, say goodbye to the smaller, more affordable entry in the Tab S lineup. Samsung has decided to focus only on larger sizes. That means you’ll only find the Tab S10+ (12.4 inches) and the Tab S10 Ultra (a whopping 14.6 inches). This also means higher starting prices, with the Tab S10+ starting at $999 and the Tab S10 Ultra starting at $1,199.
So what do you get for that premium price? Well, both have serious specs for an Android tablet. Both feature a ‘Dynamic AMOLED’ display with anti-reflective coating, at least 256GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, a quad-speaker setup with AI Boost, an IP68 durability rating, and Android 14 out of the box. The Ultra model takes things up a notch with options for 1 TB of storage, up to 16 GB of RAM, and even Wi-Fi 7 support. Both devices also come bundled with the S Pen.
But the biggest change here is that Samsung has ditched the usual Snapdragon processor in favor of MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300+ chip. While this may raise some eyebrows, Samsung promises this new chip will deliver significant performance improvements over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in the Tab S9 series. CPU performance has increased by 18% and GPU power has increased by 28%. Additionally, a more powerful NPU should make these AI-powered features more agile than ever.
And as expected, Samsung is going all-in on its Galaxy AI suite with these new tablets. Features like Circle to Search and Sketch to Image, which debuted on the Galaxy S24 smartphone, are now available on the Tab S10. The keyboard cover also features a dedicated “AI key” to quickly access Bixby or Gemini with written prompts.
“The Galaxy Tab S10 series is Samsung’s first tablet with AI-enhanced features right out of the box and the latest addition to the Galaxy AI family,” said Vice President of Mobile Experience Business and Galaxy Eco said MC Lee, head of the systems business team. Samsung Electronics. “We are proud to bring together the power and portability of the Galaxy Tab S10 series to add rich experiences that only AI tablets can provide to our seamless ecosystem of connected devices.”
Need to buy quickly? Well, I’m still leaning toward devices like the new Lenovo Chromebook Duet that offer a full desktop experience in addition to tablet functionality, but if you’re looking for a top-of-the-line Android tablet, these new tablets is definitely worth a look. With beautiful displays, powerful performance, tons of AI-powered features, and great trade-in benefits, the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra might be the best Android tablets to buy this fall.
