Samsung security updates are released monthly or quarterly for most Galaxy devices, and are often bundled with new Google Play system updates. However, it doesn’t always come with the latest version, so Google gives you the option to manually update to the latest Play System update.
Here’s the problem with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. These stopped working with Google Play’s April system update. Since the launch of these foldable devices, no software updates released by Samsung include new versions, nor are they available for manual download.
Ironically, after the new foldable device was launched, the older Galaxy, which received all the software features of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 through the One UI 6.1.1 update, received a newer version of Google than the latest Samsung. It’s running a Play system update. A foldable one.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 received Google Play’s June system update, which included One UI 6.1.1, while devices like the Galaxy S23 and S24 received the August version. But that’s not all. On most of these devices, users can Settings » About phone » Software information tap the menu Google Play system update.
It’s unclear why Fold 6 and Flip 6 are included in older versions of Google Play system updates. These updates aren’t as important as the security updates provided by Samsung, but it’s not a good look for a company’s latest flagship to not be running the latest software in any way, shape, or form.
