The “Made in USA” phone is actually a cheap Chinese Android device sold at triple priced on Amazon

20:53 ET, June 16, 2025Updated 21:53 ET, June 16, 2025

Social media users quickly discovered that Trump's T1 phone was produced in China and very similar to the existing smartphones offered on Amazon for a third of its price.

The Trump organization’s Trump Mobile Network’s flagship product is the T1, a gold-plated smartphone sold as being made in the United States. Because of the August ship, the phone is leaning towards Trump’s personal brand as a US-centric alternative to Apple’s latest iPhone 17, which will be available in September.

Trump Mobile, the corresponding mobile network provided by the Trump organization, is similarly referred to as a “national service.” However, according to a brief survey by social media users this week, the phone is actually a reskinned Android device produced in China for a price triple advertised on Amazon.

According to Apple Insider, the T1 press release for T1 says the phone is “proudly designed and built.” Eric Trump, the executive vice president of the Trump organization and the president’s son, has repeatedly said in public speaking appearances and media interviews that phones will be produced in the United States.

The T1 is said to contain several modified components, but none of them can be produced in the US.

“There are cell phones made here in America,” he told Fox Business on Monday. “We’re making phones in America, so it’s time for us to bring our products back to our great nation,” he said while on stage for the launch of the phone.

However, social media reportedly took about an hour to discover where the phone actually came from.

Analyst Max Weinbach said the T1 is very similar to the T-Mobile Revvl 7 Pro 5g. The device is created by WingTech, owned by Chinese manufacturer Luxshare. The T-Mobile version of the phone is believed to be manufactured by Kiaxing, Wuxi or Kunming in China, Apple Insider writes.

The phone costs $250 at a full retail store, but can soak up to $169 while on sale. But Trump’s phone costs Americans $499.

There seem to be some minor technical differences between the Pro Revvl 7 phone and the Trump T1, including the slightly moved camera and the new golden enclosure.

The T1 is also said to have a 6.8-inch punch-hole AMOLED display and a fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the screen. According to Apple Insider, all of these parts must be imported from outside the US. There are no domestic AMOLED display manufacturers, and VCSELs used for facial locking technology are also produced overseas. You will also need to import the replacement camera module itself.

These parts will also be affected by the Trump administration’s own tariffs unless special deals are sorted out.

Trump Mobile, a wireless provider that represents perhaps more important among the two releases of the Trump organization’s two products, is touted as offering “invincible value” and “highest level connectivity.”

Despite the branding, Trump Mobile is not the new cell network itself. Rather, it will probably work with three major established carriers in the US: T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon.

Customers will have to pay $47.45 a month for the Trump Mobile Plan, which is a relatively high price range compared to other networks. The range of additional services it offers includes 20 gigabytes of “fast” data, unlimited talk and text, and free international calls to over 100 locations.

I also promise “device protection” but will not go into detail about what it entails. Similarly, the Trump Mobile website does not provide disclosures about what additional charges may be attached to planned purchases, or how often they occur.
